A 10-year old girl actually pried open the mouth of an alligator while it was biting her.
Recently in Orlando, Florida, a girl was swimming about 10 feet from shore in a designated swimming area, only about 2 feet deep, when an 8-foot, 9-inch long alligator appeared. In response, she managed to open the jaws of the alligator that had chomped down on her leg and knee.
According to a report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, she was able to remove her leg but sustained several puncture wounds to the back of her knee and lower thigh.
The girl said she learned how to survive an alligator attack at the Gatorland Adventure Park, where, sure enough, kids are taught what to do in exactly her situation.
That being said, a Gatorland employee still told the press, "To get a animal with the strongest bite on the planet to let go of you is a miracle."
Here's a video that gives the complete report:
After the incident, lifeguards treated the girl and family members took her to a nearby hospital, where she has been reportedly released.
Moss Park is next to two large lakes, Lake Hart and Lake Mary Jane, where gators are sometimes seen, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The park is now marked off with tape, and the gator has been removed by a trapper.
