These 17 custom quail rigs show why Texas quail hunters are some of the most unique hunters in the south.
Photographer A. Lokey spent three years photographing Texas quail hunters and their hunting vehicles for his his book Texas Quail Rigs. The tricked-out vehicles featured below are some of the coolest rigs featured in the book.
Each vehicle is unique reflection of its owner's personality. The rigs range from beefed-up pickups to bare bones ATV's. Their features include shooting platforms, dog cages, gun holders and open-air jump seats - perfect for the mild weather of Texas's quail season.
Quail hunting in Texas mostly takes place on ranches that have thousands of acres of land, so having a vehicle makes hunting much easier.
Texas has relatively mild weather during quail season, which is why all these rigs have open air seats.
Texas quail season runs from early fall to midwinter.
