Two Washington County men allegedly killed 22 rabbits on Christmas Eve 2016 and were ticketed for their actions.
Yes, that social media struck again.
After New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers were alerted to a Facebook post showing the back of a pickup truck loaded with bunnies they paid a visit to the person(s) that allegedly shot them and proceeded to let them know that the limit for cottontail rabbits in the Empire State is six each per day.
NYSDEC officers found a total count of 22 cottontails, or almost twice the legal limit each.
The two men in question had said that they did not know there was a limit on rabbits in the state. Since ignorance of the law is no excuse, the hunters were cited for taking over the limit.
Finding the hunting seasons and limits is as easy as dialing-up the NYS DEC website, and even for those who may not have a computer, each and every hunter is given a brochure with all the information when they purchase their license.
These folks did purchase their hunting licenses, right?
