3 Electric Bus Models That Have Our Attention

Is there an electric bus that's better than the others? These have us listening.

Electric buses are all the rage, with range-topping technological developments in recent months, including a mind-numbing world record of 1,101.2 miles on a single charge.

Here are our picks for three electric bus models to keep an eye on.

1. Catalyst E2 Max

Consider the Catalyst E2 Max the granddaddy of all-electric buses, holder of the world record of distance traveled by an electric vehicle with 1.101.2 miles on a single charge.

What's more impressive is that it stole the crown from a one-seater experimental coupe approximately 40 times lighter.

The Catalyst E2 Max's specifications are jaw-dropping, capable of 510-horsepower using two electric motors generating 660-kWh of power. It also climbs up hills with up to a 26 percent grade with ease. According to Proterra, the bus also charges in 10 minutes using its proprietary fast-charging technology.

2. Vision Electric Type C by Blue Bird Corporation

This traditional looking school bus with flattened dimensions runs on a 150-kWh battery for up to 100-miles of all-electric range and an 8-hour charge time.

Collaborating towards its engine development work were Adomani and EDI, Blue Bird Corporation's engine development partners. To date, the company has manufactured more than 500,000 buses in A, C, and D configurations.

Look for it to go into production in 2018.

3. Daimler Citaro e-Cell

Daimler

The Citaro is Europe's electric bus of choice. Recently, it delivered the 50,000th Citaro delivered to an Austrian transport company. Its new model is an all-electric dubbed the e-Cell, equipped with modular lithium-ion battery packs placed at the rear axle to power its hub motors, along with thermal management systems to save power.

Very little is known about the e-Cell's actual specifications thus far, but its distinction as one of the hottest sellers makes this one to keep an eye on. Look out for its debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover, Germany next September.

With a Q4 2018 pledge by 12 major cities to run all-electric buses by 2025, including Paris, Barcelona, and London - the future of the Citaro's e-Cell is in excellent hands.
