The 4 Handguns That Dazzled Us at SHOT Show 2018

We had more options than we knew what to do with, but these handguns really made an impression on us.

It's hard to stick out in a crowd, especially when there's enough competition to fill up a 630,000-square-foot venue. However, even then, these handguns top off the list. We had the opportunity to shoot each of these at Industry Day at the Range, and each of these firearms featured superior performance, comfortability and appearance.

Walther PPQ Sub-Compact

This gun will round out the PPQ family, and it's one heck of a gun. Sporting a 3.5-inch barrel and a 5.6-pound trigger pull, this gun makes for a great carry gun. It boasts all of standard PPQ features in a smaller, more concealable package. One of the PPQ SC's features that really stands out is its .1-inch trigger reset, which allows for a speedy second shot. Currently offered in a 9mm, this gun can be equipped with a 10- or 15-round magazine.

Smith & Wesson M&P Compact M2.0

Smith & Wesson came out to SHOT swinging with the new M&P Compact M2.0. Available in 9mm with a 15-round magazine or in 40 S&W with a 13-round magazine, this firearm will compete with anything on the market. Its aggressive grip makes it feel very secure in the hand, and features a very efficient trigger reset, similar to the PPQ SC.

Glock 19x

If you follow shooting news with any consistency, you've surely heard about the Glock 19X by now. Featuring a compact slide and a full-size frame, this crossover-style pistol is special. Not only does it boast shorter length and a comfortable grip, but it's extremely tough. The nPVD coating on the slide protects against the toughest weather conditions, and it has fewer parts that just about every pistol on the market. This decreases the number of things that can go wrong and makes the gun easier to maintain.

Springfield Armory 911

This is the ultimate carry weapon. With a 2.7-inch barrel, its size is perfect for concealing, but just big enough to fit like a full-size handgun. After shooting the 911 at Industry Day at the Range, we can tell you this firearm is all business. Springfield will release the 911 in a .380 ACP sometime in the next month. Shooters have the option of a flush 6-round or an extended 7-round magazine.
