Here are four Heckler & Koch handguns lots of shooters have been talking about.
Heckler & Koch is an esteemed firearm company that's considered a worldwide leader in supplying small arms to multiple NATO countries as well as the rest of us who love the shooting sports.
With operations in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States, H&K continues to meet the needs and requirements of shooting enthusiasts the world over by providing some of the highest quality firearms made, without much argument.
One of the constants that come from the H&K line of products is the resounding effort and emphasis on creating features to their guns that are critical to consistent, repeatable performance that may actually help you improve on the range and in the field.
And we sure don't have a problem with that.
Heckler & Koch make many ergonomic, optics-ready firearms that law enforcement officials rely on everywhere, and the fact is that they are some of the best made firearms anywhere. Here are four top choices.
H&K USP Compact
The HK USP Compact is categorized as a small frame pistol that fires powerful, popular cartridges in 9 mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and not many users would argue that it is as great in the hand as it is to shoot. We like to say that there's always room for another concealed carry pistol, and if you can put one of these into your gun safe collection you won't be sorry.
The USP is a polymer framed, recoil operated handgun that offers multiple size options for every user and is equally well used by both law enforcement and the military.
H&K P2000
The P2000 SK is the smallest handgun offered by H&K and comes chambered in both the 9mm+19 and .40 S&W. It comes in both the full size P2000 and the subcompact P2000 SK, both with fully ambidextrous controls.
This series is very easy to carry and use for both veteran and beginner handgun users, and is a good starting point for those new to concealed carry.
One of the best features of the P2000 is the HK Law Enforcement Modification trigger system (or LEM). It combines the "advantages of a cocked striker component (constant level of trigger pull from first to last round fired) with a double-action hammer system."
H&K HK45
The HK45 is chambered in .45 ACP and is offered in the full size HK45 and the compact HK45C. Tactical versions of both are offered with an extended, threaded barrel that accepts a suppressor and multiple color versions. These models come with a removable backstrap to create a better comfort level for individual shooters by allowing for a better fit to the hand.
There's a reason why this model has been around so long (first introduced in 1995). It offers both compact size and power, and includes several user-inspired enhancements including the aforementioned changeable grip panels, a Picatinny accessory rail, and a unique-to-H&K O-ring barrel for precise barrel-to-slide lockup, which the company says provides optimal accuracy.
HK VP9
Updated for 2020, the H&K VP9 9mmx19 now comes standard with:
- 17-round magazines (they were previously 15-round)
- New sight configuration
- The optional, optics-ready cut with cap, and adapter plates which are sold separately based on the shooters needs and available from the HK online store.
The new slide mounted, miniaturized red-dot sight lets the shooter look through instead of at while lining up the target, promoting better accuracy, especially with high-quality ammo.
Maybe the best part is that the new and upgraded 17-round magazines have been engineered to hold more rounds without increasing their length. The VP9 has an ergonomic, adjustable grip, best in class trigger, and a modified Browning striker fired ignition system.
Heckler and Koch Guns
Most Heckler & Koch firearms come with a cold hammer forged polygonal bore and a reinforced (polyamyde) polymer frame that are touted as ready for a lifetime of use. As semi-automatic firearms go, the H&K series of pistols have an edge in quality that, combined with a robust limited lifetime warranty, creates the right formula for success as a gun company.
Overall, H&K stands up next to Walther, Beretta, GLOCK, SIG SAUER, and the rest of the top firearms producers, while offering both professionals and enthusiasts a complementary group of pistols to choose from.
As with any list or collection of handguns, these suggestions are only meant to start the discussion and not end it. We all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to our favorite firearms, and no one can have the last word except the user.
We provided our thoughts, now it's up to you to agree or disagree.
