FWC has recently announced that a three-part, 78-day red snapper season has now been approved!
I am sure some fishermen are very happy to hear the news coming out of Tallahassee, Florida, recently. Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission has just approved the dates for a recreational fishing season on gulf coast red snapper.
The dates for the season were recently set at a meeting this month that allow for a total of 78 days of open season on gulf coast red snapper.
The dates will be as follows:
- Open Saturdays and Sundays in May starting the first Saturday in May.
- Open daily starting the Saturday before Memorial Day (May 27) through Sunday following Independence Day (July 9).
- Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September and October, plus Labor Day (Sept. 4).
"We are once again able to provide and maintain fishing opportunities for Gulf recreational anglers and provide stakeholders with spring, summer and fall fishing options for this economically important species," said Commissioner Chuck Roberts.
While the dates for the recreational anglers have been set, the seasons for private anglers and federally-permitted charter boats and head boats in the Gulf federal waters have not bee announced by the NOAA Fisheris as of yet.
