Most of our feline friends love cuddling, but it's usually on their own terms. However, it's a misconception that cats don't need humans to live a good life. Cats love their humans just as much as any affectionate dog breed, and sometimes more, even if they're not a particularly affectionate cat breed. Separation anxiety can happen in feline or Fido, and while cats express their love a little differently, most cat owners will agree that it's common to be greeted at the door by their cats.
Cats are certainly more independent than dogs, but some are a little more cuddly than others when it comes to couch time and lap time. Many breeds are known specifically for this characteristic, if you're looking for a velcro cat in your life. While all cats vary in temperament, these breeds are much more likely to offer you coveted cuddle time on a regular basis.
Cheryl Hogan of The International Cat Association (TICA) offered her two cents on cat breeds she knows have more connection to their human counterparts. She says that the following cat breeds are more likely "to go out of their way to snuggle right into your heart."
While all cats have unique and special personalities, these 13 affectionate cat breeds seem more interested in spending time with their owners purring away on their laps.

1. Scottish Fold
Yes, this is the cat breed of Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson, Taylor Swift's cats/family members.
One of the friendliest family pets, this breed is very mellow and docile from thousands of years of domestication. Scottish Folds want nothing more but to spend the day in your lap looking at you with those big, round eyes.
2. Ragdoll
These cats are literally known as "puppy cats" because they have such dog-like traits, like wanting to cuddle. Ragdoll cats are named so because these low-maintenance lovers go limp in your arms and love being held.
This breed is a popular indoor cat and is more interested in their humans than most cats. Ragdoll cat owners have even been known to play fetch with their cat companions, making them fabulous family cats.
3. Tonkinese
This intelligent cat breed is also very vocal. They are known to hold full conversations with their people, and while they have these convos, they like to be cuddling.
Tonkinese cats are among the most social cat breeds and make good companions.
4. Birman
Birmans are just big, fluffy piles of love. Not only does Cheryl Hogan bring her expertise to cat shows, but she also breeds cats, and the Birman cat is one of the most personable lap cats she knows.
"I've never met such a people-oriented cat in my life," she said.
Birmans are as affectionate as they are sensitive and will always rely on you for companionship. They are also known for their blue eyes and silky coat.
5. Sphynx

It might be easy to guess why this cat breed is on the most affectionate list—they like to be warm! And one of the warmest places in the house happens to be snuggling your lap.
Hairless Sphynx cats are known to be very silly and love showing off.
6. Siamese
Siamese cats are also very vocal and like to tell their owners all about their day. Their favorite place to reminisce about the bug they chased in the yard? Your arms.
"The love you can see in their eyes toward their owners is incomparable," says Hogan, which is an accurate description of this affectionate cat.
7. Kurilian Bobtail
This breed is pretty rare in the U.S. but is known to be very personable. The Kurilian Bobtail is from Russia, and if you're lucky enough to have one, you know they are very special companions.
These cats are known to be very friendly and devoted to their human counterparts.
8. Burmese
Burmese cats are very social and love to be held. This affectionate cat breed is pretty much a soft lump of chocolate love.
Plus, their expressive faces will tell all when you hold them close and whisper sweet nothings in their ears.
9. Bombay
The Bombay Cat is actually a breed that came from the Burmese, so it makes sense they have similar attributes. But this little black panther is recognized as their own breed and an affectionate breed they are.
In fact, TICA judge and longtime Bombay breeder Wendy Klamm says that these cats are "the goodwill ambassadors of the cat fancy, never having met a stranger. They make friends with everyone."
10. Maine Coon
The Maine Coon is the largest domestic cat breed, as these gentle giants can weigh up to 18 pounds and be up to 40 inches long. That's a lot of cat to have on your lap, but Maine Coons are highly social, and most love interacting with their human families.
Maine Coon cats tend to chirp and trill instead of meowing, and they'll do that enthusiastically to get your attention. In addition, these lovable, affectionate cats are known to play fetch and even be willing to walk on a leash.
11. Persian
If you don't mind investing some time in grooming a long-haired cat, a Persian can make a loving and loyal addition to your home. Persian cats are visually striking, but they're also great lap cats. Most Persians will happily sit in your lap for hours but won't demand your attention every time you sit down.
Persians are affectionate with their family members, and they like to both play and snuggle. Many Persians get along well with other pets, and they can be great choices for families with children or for quieter homes, too.
12. Manx
Manx cats are mostly known for their lack of tail, but they're an extremely playful, friendly breed as well. Manx cats often display dog-like characteristics, making them perfect for families with children or families who want a little bit of spunk and fun in their lives. Manx cats have a tendency to follow you around, greet you at the door, and can even be taught to enjoy time on a leash.
13. Russian Blue
These sociable cats are most well known for their grey coat, which in certain lighting can almost look blue. It's believed that these cats descended from the cats of Russian Czars, and they were at some point crossbred with siamese cats. Russian blues are friendly, sociable cats. They can be wary and shy around strangers, but bond easily with family members given time.
Some other popular cat breeds known to be extra cuddly include the Cornish Rex and Devon Rex cats (curly-haired cats), and the Himalayan. Many of these cats are also on the list of tiny cat breeds that look like kittens forever. Even American shorthairs are a fan of a good snuggle every now and then!
While all cats can have moments of affection, these affectionate cat breeds are more willing to let you love them up close and are always ready for a good snuggle.
