A fleeing impala makes a daring maneuver to escape two cheetahs in this incredible video.
If there is one animal on Earth that has a rough existence, it is the impala. Anything and everything wants to eat impalas in Africa. These ungulates are constantly on edge, ready to bolt at a moment's notice from predators. When the world's fastest land mammal, the cheetah, is after one of them, well, the impala often has few options to avoid ending up dinner.
Every once in a while though, one of them has a bit of good luck. Tourists in South Africa's Kruger National Park were stunned to witness a pair of cheetahs chasing a group of impalas right in front of their cars.
The incredible chase lasts only seconds and comes to an abrupt end when the slender impala makes a flying leap right through an open window into another tourist's vehicle!
The hungry cheetahs had that impala dead to rights. It was probably only seconds away from bringing the impala down. We are not sure if the impala was aiming for that window in an act of desperation or not, but it worked. The cheetahs looked to be completely perplexed by what just happened. As a result, they do not appear to have been paying attention when the tourists opened the door to let the animal out. The impala makes an impossibly narrow escape and lives to breathe another day.
At this point, nothing surprises us out of Kruger National Park anymore. Almost every day, a tourist is capturing some incredible wildlife footage within the park's boundaries. It seems to be the place to go if you want to experience a National Geographic documentary come to life.
