Poacher didn't have deer tags.
It's not often one hears about blacktail deer poaching, but Oregon Fish and Game have just cited a 28-year-old man for three counts of that in Winston, Oregon.
According to a press release, David Barton was the subject of a year and a half-long police investigation before Oregon state troopers with the Fish and Wildlife Division finally served a search warrant on Sunday morning. They seized a rifle and three large sets of blacktail antlers in the case.
Police say Barton not only exceeded bag limits, but he killed deer without ever having a deer tag in his possession. They cited him on three counts of unlawful take and possession and released him.
No word on exactly what Barton's punishment could be for the crimes, but the police press release says the violations like unlawful take of deer could be Class A misdemeanors. This could mean loss of hunting privileges, weapons and a max penalty of $6,250.
