National Archery in Schools Tournament in New Mexico is a Big Hit

The Albuquerque Convention Center played host to more than 800 archers at the sixth annual National Archery in Schools State Tournament March 11, 2017.

NM Game and Fish reported that over a hundred different schools across New Mexico had entries in the National Archery in the Schools Program.

This year, some 800+ youth archers participated in the tournament that was based in Albuquerque and was visited by over 3,000 people. With divisions that crossed elementary, middle, and high school levels students competed against like aged individuals for first in their class.

Brian Guzman, archery coordinator for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish said:

"We had a great turnout and an awesome time. Kids have really taken to this sport and our tournament is one of the best in the west."

The top ten scorers in  both boys an girls individual divisions qualified to participate in the Nationals in Kentucky in May.

Federal funding is possible, some of which comes through the Pittman-Robertson Act of 1937 which dedicates federal excise taxes collected from the manufacturers of firearms, ammunition and archery equipment.
