Okay, a raccoon can look like a criminal with its little mask and beady eyes.
But usually criminals get caught, and then go to prison. And then they try to break out. On March 25, a raccoon in New York decided he might as well go straight to jail.
Seems the critter in question decided to break into the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility in St. Lawrence County. It took up a spot on the prison fence, and it refused to leave.
Ogdensburg is a medium security facility that houses male prisoners. It's also a detention center for Federal Immigration inmates from Ulster County. And the guards rule with a iron fist. In 2016, inmates claimed some guards were abusive.
Still, it seems a raccoon was just too much.
Admittedly, the raccoon could have had rabies. And they can be quite intelligent.
So, a sergeant at the prison decided to call the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
DEC dispatched Environmental Conservation Officer Joel Schneller. He used a catch pole to snag the disruptor and take it away.
However, there might be further incidents, since Schneller "released the raccoon unharmed just outside the prison fence at the edge of the nearby woods," according to the DEC.
