Throw away those fancy crankbaits and plastic wacky worms and get yourself a box of Chicken McNuggets. That's what the bass are biting on in Texas!
Ennis County, Texas resident Matthew J. McNellis made a pitstop at a local McDonald's fast food restaurant, then drove to the marina to break the lake record largemouth bass. What's McDonald's got to do with it, you might ask. Well, McNellis was there picking up some McBait: an order of Chicken McNuggets.
That's right, McNellis caught a 10.802 pound, 24.5 inch long largemouth bass, the biggest bass to ever be pulled from what we assume was nearby Bardwell Lake, south of Dallas.
And he caught it on a Chicken McNugget.
While it seems that humans aren't the only ones who are fond of their menu, McDonald's has not released any statement declaring that they're getting into the fishing business. No product line of McRods or McReels has been announced.
McNellis also did not reveal whether he smothered his McNugget lure with barbecue sauce or honey mustard. Some fishing secrets shall remain secret.
It's funny, Texans has lately been pulling in some big fish on some unusual human foods. Recently a couple of anglers from Abilene caught a monster 61 pound-plus flathead catfish on a Bar-S brand hot dog. That fish was also a lake record at Fort Phantom Hill.
The big bass was released back into the lake after it was weighed, measured and photographed.
