Lakes in Northern Michigan have some big smallmouth bass.
The problem? Those lakes are featureless and deep, so you can only target the fish when they spawn.
Check out the video of this day on a lake in Northern Michigan. It has water so clear, the anglers can spot spawning areas and target the big bass.
Who wouldn't love fishing on a lake as clear as the one in the video? Most often, fishing is dropping lures and bait in dark water, maybe finding a good spot via a depth finder.
Not in this lake.
The anglers hop on a step ladder and scan the shallows for smallmouth beds.
And then they can actually see the fish on the gravelly beds, near boulders.
But just because you can see the fish doesn't mean the fishing is easy. You have to draw your bait at just the right angle near the bass, or it doesn't care.
It's a great video on an amazingly clear lake that I hope to find someday.
And some nice 4- and 5-pound smallmouth.
