Firefighters have some pretty cool tools when it comes to fighting fires.
High-pressure hoses, axes, even grenades have been used. However, firefighters now have another weapon in their arsenal—a shotgun.
Okay, it's not a weapon. They don't load the shotgun with shells. It doesn't fire pellets or other projectiles.
But it makes one helluva boom, and it kicks. Oh, plus it can help save lives.
It's called the IFEX Impulse Gun. It uses short water blasts which travel at 248 mph!
The device is already proving effective. On fires that usually take nearly 400 gallons of water to extinguish, the shotgun only uses about 3.5.
It's the high rate of speed and large, vaporous cooling area that does the trick.
The manufacturer says it can even be used on fires in electrical devices.
