A hawk and eagles make one big happy family.
Nature can be pretty amazing at times. Such is the case of a red-tailed hawk named Spunky that was adopted by bald eagles. No, this isn't the plot to a Disney movie. This bird has some unique adoptive parents!
These two species are normally enemies, but researchers are noting Spunky is now starting to act like an eagle. National Geographic has more in this interesting short video.
What an amazing story. One has to wonder just how this situation came to be. Spunky has certainly lived up to the nickname by defying all odds.
While eating fish may be behavior more suited to eagles than hawks, it seems Spunky's hawk instincts are still there. Hopefully this young hawk will learn to catch the small rodents and snakes that hawks typically eat.
It will be interesting to see what this hawk does once his adopted parents migrate out of the area. One thing is for sure, we're rooting for this little guy. What a cool story of survival. This is why we love nature!
