So you grab a soda or shake at a fast food joint and you drink it down. What do you do with the disposable cup now? Why, you build a rat trap, of course!
Here's what you need to make this clever if unconventional mouse or rat trap: a disposable cup with a dome lid and the straw that came with it, rubber bands, tape, a length of thread, a peanut (or some other hard, small bait), and a couple of plastic screw top caps from water or soda bottles.
You'll also need a wood burning tool to melt portions of the plastic cup and a hot glue gun.
Rather than detail all the steps to create this slightly complicated rat trap, I'll just have you watch the video.
Well, what do you think? Is this a viable, practical trap?
Clearly it can catch a rodent, and it would be fantastic for a live release of the rat or mouse (if that's what you'd want to do).
Honestly, I think it's just too complicated to be a practical trap. But I do absolutely love the ingenious creativity it took to come up with this contraption. This disposable cup trap really shows that someone was really thinking outside the box, and this might even spark ideas for some more unusual traps using repurposed urban materials.
But if you're not going to use a standard commercial rat trap, I think for practical purposes it's probably easier and more efficient to just build a simple deadfall. Unless, of course, you want to live release the animal... it would be a little difficult to live release a rat flattened by a large deadfall rock.
