Hurricane Harvey impacted Texas in many ways. That includes fall fishing.
Coastal fishing will be won't be the same as in years past. Freshwater runoff from the flooding poured into the bays and their estuaries will keep many species away until into October.
However, not all of Harvey's effects will be negative for Texas anglers this fall. The freshwater surge from the storm's torrential downpours and flooding could create some fall fishing hotspots. That is, if anglers can find them.
You might be wondering how flooding can create hotspots. Saltwater fish, like speckled trout, will find pockets of water with good salinity levels and remain there until things get back to normal.
Many lakes in Texas are actually full this year. The new water surge has also raised the levels of some inland lakes. These higher levels have created new vegetation slots for fish to use. Bass anglers might have some big trips this year as they try these new hiding spots.
Anglers also have to be careful of debris as they launch their boats. Still, there will be fish in Texas this fall, and any fishing is good for the soul.
