Hawk Lays Quietly While Man Removes Cholla Needles, Releases It

Watch as one trusting and hurt hawk waits patiently for its benefactor to remove some cactus needles from its body.

As someone who got a little too close to a cactus before, I can tell you having cholla spikes stuck in you is no laughing matter.

Knowing how well their barbed spines stick into living things, it's not lost on me how amazing it is that this bird is so calm in the hands of a man who it seems to know is only trying to help.

Here's the save of the day and the kind man that pulled it off:

Congratulations to these guys for pulling off the save of the day!

When humans can intervene in the animal kingdom like this, the world is a better place.

This is a case of an animal that had an accident and wouldn't have survived without some help. It was the right thing to do in this case, but when nature is just trying to hunt, eat and survive, we should just back off.

Sometimes well-meaning folks get a little carried away like trying to save a lizard from being eaten by a snake, or a duck from the jaws of a snapping turtle. It's an eat-or-be-eaten world out there, but that doesn't mean that we can't try to help in the right situations.
