Video: Incredible Capture of a Lone Wolf Howling at Close Range

The sound of a wolf howling is just beyond cool.

For those of us that have been privileged to hear the call of a wolf in the wild, it's one sound that's truly unforgettable. With the ability to carry six miles through a forest or up to ten miles through a treeless landscape, a wolf's call has three primary uses. It can be used to rally the pack to meet up, to let the pack know of a member's location or as a warning signal to outside wolves to stay out of a pack's territory.

Derrick Allen filmed the following clip in northern Ontario. As you're about to see, a casual cruise down a country road led to an unexpected and incredible interaction.

Any guess as to which reason this lone wolf was howling? If I had to choose, I'd say it was to let the pack know of its location.
