West Virginia Bear Hunt With Hounds

A West Virginia Bear Hunt with Hounds Is Not for the Faint of Heart

Though there are people who hunt black bears with dogs all over the United States, but the practice is most common in eastern states like West Virginia and Tennessee.

Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise: it takes a tremendous amount of skill, some very well trained dogs and a little bit of luck to harvest a big black bear on a hunt with dogs. As you'll see in a minute, it's serious business.

Watch the video below and see for yourself:

Bear hunts with hounds can get exciting in a hurry, though. Sometimes the bear will tree, sometimes it will try to fight the dogs on the ground and sometimes it'll escape by going into areas where the dogs can't follow.

For that reason, you really need to stay on your toes during a hound hunt. A close-range encounter with a bear is always a possibility, and it can get ugly if you're not prepared.

However, a bear hunt with hounds also has the potential to be an incredibly exciting opportunity to take a big, mature black bear like these guys did. I don't know about you, but that looked like a great hunt to me.

Nice work, guys!
