Did a poacher get off easy for having 87 walleye over his limit?
A Michigan man who plead guilty early last month for being in possession of an over-limit of walleye found out his fate this week, when he was given a $13,050 fine and had his Ontario fishing license suspended for the next ten years.
William Krueger, who resides in East Tawas, was leaving White Lake Provincial Park back on Sept. 2, 2017 when conservation officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry inspected his fifth wheel trailer.
Officers discovered 64 bags of skinless fish hidden in the false bottom of a chest freezer after Krueger originally produced only three bags of skinless northern pike, which he had stored in a separate freezer.
Under a sport fishing license, the possession limit is four walleye per person. Krueger had a total of 95 fish, meaning he was 87 walleye over the limit, after he and his spouse were both factored into the combined possession total.
