Abu Garcia has set a new standard in spinning reel design with the release of the new Revo MGXtreme. Touted as their lightest and most compact spinning reel to date, the Revo MGXtreme promises to take performance and engineering to a whole new level.
Let's tackle weight first. A combination of the revolutionary CMg carbon rotor and one-piece X-Mag alloy gear box is responsible for reducing the weight of the Revo MGXtreme to an astonishing 5.6 ounces (20-size) and 5.9 ounces (30-size). We're talking the epitome of lightweight here.
Sporting a 6.2:1 gear ratio, the Revo MGXtreme comes stock with both stainless steel HPCR bearings and Salt Shield ball bearings, combining for a total of 12. Built on a C6 carbon body, this latest release from Abu Garcia also sports a carbon matrix drag system and a compact, bent, carbon handle arm with cork knob. As an added bonus, Abu Garcia implemented an innovative, removable sinker keeper, which promises to tame tangles for those anglers who fish with a drop shot.
The 20-size spinning reel has a braid capacity of 190 yards of 8-pound test while the larger 30-size can handle 180 yards of 10-pound test. In terms of inches retrieved per handle turn, the Revo MGXtreme clocks in at 31.4 and 33.7 inches, respectively.
Other features include an "always on" instant anti-reverse and rocket line management system.
In terms of aesthetics, the new Abu Garcia Revo MGXtreme spinning reel gets two thumbs up for style. Sticking with the traditional Abu colors, the red-and-black scheme (with silver trim) looks both sharp and attractive. The cork knob on the reel handle gives the whole package a nice, finished look.
