This dinner plate of a fish is the new Colorado state record bluegill.
There's a new angling peak to summit if you're hoping to catch the biggest bluegill in the state of Colorado.
According to a Facebook post by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife - Durango page, the record has been broken by Gregory Wallace, a fly angler who wasn't even targeting bluegill.
In fact, Wallace was aiming towards catching a pike on a fly rod, and instead hooked up with the biggest recorded bluegill ever caught in the state.
The big bluegill measured 12 3/4 inches long and weighed 2 pounds, 9 1/2 ounces.
It was caught the week of June 12, 2019 at Totten Reservoir in the Southwest portion of the state.
The previous record bluegill from Colorado was a 2-pound, 5-ounce fish caught at the Comanche Power Plant in 2014. This new record surpasses it by four and a half ounces.

If you're curious, the all-tackle world record for bluegill is 4 pounds, 10 ounces, and it was caught all the way back in 1947.
