Could you live off-grid in a trailer like this?
The popular tiny house movement of recent years has also seen a sure in interest in tiny camper living. More specifically, more and more people are building their own custom trailers to live in rent and mortgage free. It is a great way to save a lot of money and to get a better connection with nature.
The rig in this video is owned by Keith in Oregon. Keith works construction and is a handyman full-time, but in his free time he likes to go off-roading. His home is built to handle the punishment of being towed through these areas.
The video below gives a full tour of the camper he has called home for the last four years.
We love the rugged, rustic look of this trailer. The recycled pallet wood looks really nice on the sides and gives it a real cabin on wheels feel. Keith does not have solar panels or many of the other expensive electronic gadgets some other builds have, but it does not seem to bother him either. This rig was built to save money and connect him with the outdoors. It certainly seems to have accomplished just that.
One recurring theme we see with many of these full-time nomad camper builds is that the people living in them are seldom completely satisfied with their tiny homes on wheels. Keith is planning to add a pop-out sleeping area and a pop-top one on the roof to give him even more space. In most cases, people do not realize ways their design could be improved until they have been on the road for a while.
We like the fact that he built so much of this home out of recycled materials. Far too much stuff is thrown out as garbage these days. It is good to see people maximizing the useable life of these items instead of it ending up in the landfill.
Good job on the trailer Keith, keep up the good work. We must admit, we are somewhat jealous of this carefree lifestyle!
