Amateur camera footage captured this nerve-wracking scene from Yellowstone as two people are charged by a bison and one is forced to play dead.
A terrifying scene played out in Yellowstone National Park recently, as two people viewing some bison tried to escape a sudden charge, with one of them tripping and falling to the ground.
Bystanders yelled to "play dead," which is exactly what the unidentified woman did, and the bison eventually lost interest. Reports say she escaped without injury.
According to KRTV.com, the incident was filmed at Nez Perce Creek, a popular spot in the typically-crowded park this time of year.
This is just the latest in a string of recent incidents involving bison, humans, and Yellowstone. Some are purely the fault of egregious acts on the part of the human, but not always.
The basic protocol from park officials says to stay 25 yards away from all large animals, including bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes, and to increase that distance to at least 100 yards if you've encountered a bear or wolf.
Bison are the largest mammals in North America, with males reaching up to 2,000 pounds and six feet tall, says the Department of Interior.
At some point, if folks can't respect the regulations set forth by park officials and, well, common sense, they're going to need to find some other way to enjoy Yellowstone Park. Might we suggest watching the hit TV show?
