Sometimes big fish come when you least expect it.
Almost every bass angler dreams about catching a truly gigantic largemouth bass. Some may plan extensive fishing trips to far-away destinations in hopes of fulfilling that dream. Then they'll spend days on the hour casting until their arm feels like it is going to fall off, hoping they get that bite from the biggest bass of their life.
Some fishermen have spent nearly their whole lives trying to catch a fish that weighs in the double digits without success. Even if the go fishing almost every day. It's hard enough to find a bass over ten pounds, let alone to get one to strike your lure. After all, most of these giant fish are waters that receive tons of fishing pressure and bass see lures on a nearly daily basis. Most are wise to the tricks of the angler.
Which is what can make those moments when you do hook into the fish of a lifetime so special. Popular fishing YouTuber Jon B. recently decided to make a spur-of-the-moment trip to a lake in Texas that is becoming increasingly popular in hopes of catching a fish that finally cracks that double digit mark. Unbelievably, he and his friends don't have to fish for long before Jon hooks in a 14-pounder that leaves them both in disbelief.
What a fish! And what a memory to capture on video from cast to catch! Jon has caught some real lunker bass over the years, but to increase his personal best from just under ten pounds to 14 like that makes for a truly exciting moment. Note how Jon never once names this lake. We don't blame him for wanting to keep this location a secret while he can. That is a tank of a fish!
Jon chose not to enter this bass in the Texas Share Lunker program, and kudos to him for that. It's hard to not want to enter a fish in the program. Especially when this bass would have qualified as a "Legend" class fish. Anglers who catch one of that size win a free replica of their catch and the chance to be entered into a very limited pool for a $5,000 shopping spree. In previous years the pool of anglers has hovered around a dozen or so, making for very good odds in that drawing!
We're intrigued by that cliffhanger at the end of the video too. It makes it sound like they caught an even bigger fish than this afterwards! We'll be keeping an eye on Jon's channel in hopes of an even bigger update soon!
