Elkhorn Coffee has a new offering that is the product of a partnership with Boone & Crockett to produce and sell a coffee just for hunters who want to help support conservation. If you are a coffee lover, this is the sort of thing that connects your daily habits with the support of meaningful conservation efforts.
You could always directly donate to Boone & Crockett, but this coffee is a nice way to get something out of it, too. Of course, you want to know if it is something you will drink first. According to their website, "This coffee is a full-bodied medium roast, with notes of rich chocolate, toffee, and a smooth, nutty finish- exceptional black, with cream, or any way you like it!" Plus, they have plenty of grind preferences so you don't have to change up your routine.
The kicker about this specific coffee is that it directly helps support conservation. Elkhorn Coffee Roasters says they will donate $1 to Boone & Crockett for every pound of coffee they sell. The bag is 12 ounces and costs $15.95. That makes it about $21.27 a pound. So for around every $20 spent, they are donating $1, which comes out to about 4.7% of their total revenue. That is a considerable percentage for a donation.
The backbone of Elkhorn Coffee Roasters are the owners, Scott and April Parsons. They have lived in Bozeman, Montana, for 13 years and have a strong love for coffee. They eventually decided that they wanted to produce the finest coffee possible and set up shop in the summer of 2018.
To make their awesome coffee, they use ethically-sourced specialty green beans and roast them in small batches to ensure their quality and consistency. They work hard to produce their coffee, and have combined efforts with Randy Newberg in the past, creating the "Big Hank" ground coffee selection. Beyond that, there are seven other specialty coffees you can choose from. Whether or not you like their Boone & Crockett coffee, there is certainly something on their website that you would love.
Contributing to Boone & Crockett
The Boone & Crockett Club has done plenty for wildlife, but one of the most important things they do is fight for conservation and regulation of wildlife within our legal system. They were responsible for introducing the first laws dedicated solely to wildlife. This includes legislation such as the Lacey Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Wildlife Restoration Act (known as the Pittman-Robertson Act), and the Federal Duck Stamp Act. They have also been at the forefront of the battle to create national parks like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. Boone & Crockett is also responsible for supporting the creation of many other conservation programs throughout the United States.
You likely know Boone and Crockett best for their scoring system, and perhaps their "fair chase" ethics behind hunting methods. They do keep the record books on whitetail and many other big game animals. They use this immense amount of data they collect from hunters to influence future actions related to conservation. And ethical hunting is, of course, of huge importance.
Boone and Crockett will always be at the backbone of conservation and record-keeping, but that is not all they do. They put in a great effort to educate the public about wildlife and to advocate for wildlife within our government. On top of that, they put a lot of time and money into research that benefits our wildlife. They are at the forefront of funding research related to Chronic Wasting Disease, which is needed now more than ever.
