Siamese cats come in more colors than you might realize!
Flame point Siamese cats are gorgeous, but they're not the only Siamese cat with an incredible coat. One of the most striking cat breeds, the Siamese has unusual coat colors and variations that only enhance their visual appeal. Siamese cat eye colors are also beautiful to look at, especially when combined with their unique coat patterns. You've seen them before— Siamese cats slinking around with dark faces, brilliant blue eyes, and dark paws. This coloration is known as "points," which means that their extremities are the parts, or points, of their body that are colored.
The points colors of Siamese cats are darker and include the face mask, paws, tail, and ears. While the pattern usually stays roughly the same, the coloration of the points varies. Here are the most common Siamese colors!
Different Siamese Cat Points & Colors
Seal Point
Seal points are noted by dark seal-brown, almost black, points with a dark brown nose and paw pads with a cream body. This is thought to be the original color of the breed when it was first exported from Siam. Dilute Calicos have a similar muted coat, though much rarer in nature than Seal Points.
Blue Point
These cats have slate blue points, also known to be a "dilute" seal color. Blue points have slate grey noses and paw pads with a bluish-white body.
Chocolate Point
Noted by light milk chocolate colored points with a light chocolate colored nose and paw pads, Chocolate point Siamese cats also have a cream-colored body and are a little reminiscent of a tortoisehell cat color.
Lilac Point
The palest of the points, Lilac points are considered a "dilute" chocolate, with pink-like grey colored points, a lavender nose and paw pads, and a white body.
Cream Point
Considered a hybrid because of the complicated process of breeding the colors out and then Siamese back in, these cats have very light points, with pink paw pads and noses.
Flame Point Siamese Cats
Characterized by a light reddish orange point and pink paw pads and a nose, these Siamese cats have been bred with other breeds carrying the orange gene to get their red-colored points. The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) doesn't lump cats with this red coloring into the official Siamese breed, classifying them instead as ColorPoint Shorthairs - a separate breed
Seal, Blue, Chocolate, and Lilac are the only four colors recognized by all cat registries in the United States, as they are also the four most widely available colors.
Some of these Siamese traits might not be in keeping with the official breed standard, but they still make for a beautiful cat. Regardless of the point you choose, if you share your home and heart with a Siamese you will never be without an abundance of love!
