Who doesn't love the Budweiser Clydesdales? Well, our favorite draft horses returned for a great Christmas commercial. The Budweiser Clydesdale barn was all decorated for Christmas, and Homer and Miss Kitty were hanging out in their stalls. When Homer paid Miss Kitty a visit, she stood ready under the mistletoe.
But Homer's reaction? You just have to see it for yourself.
Clearly, Homer thinks candy canes are better than kisses any day, and this lucky horse finds a Budweiser Clydesdale-sized candy cane waiting for him. If you've decorated your horse's stall with a stocking of his very own, then candy canes make great treats to put into the stockings. Just make sure that your horse can't reach the stocking, or he'll be helping himself to his treats.
Many riders choose to feed their horses peppermints as treats. They're small, convenient, and cheap, even if they do get a little sticky. Plus, they leave a horse's breath smelling minty fresh. But if your horse has a metabolic condition, like Cushing's, then peppermints aren't the greatest treats because of the sugar that they contain.
Have a horse who can't have peppermints? There are sugar-free peppermints available, though they're a little more expensive. But a better option is probably to look for a sugar-free horse treat. Luckily there are many available on the market today.
If your horse can have sugar, then peppermints and candy canes can be the perfect Christmas treat. Consider giving your horse some carrots or apples in his grain, and throw in a peppermint or two for an extra-special Christmas dinner.
