To see a hundred free-roaming foxes up close. you'll need to visit Japan's Miyagi Zao Fox Village. Sign us up! Anyone that's considered a fox as a pet should book their travel!
If you must live with a pet fox, the fennec fox is adorable and has ears that go on forever! They are tiny and weigh between two and four pounds. It is said they look like Pokemon. Their golden and dense coat usually has a black tip - all of their physical characteristics allow them to adapt to desert conditions. They look so snuggly that you can hardly imagine them in their native environment, the Sahara Desert.
They are the most social of all foxes and need an outlet for their endless energy. They enjoy digging (similar to a dachshund or terrier) and can dig up to twenty feet a night in their natural environment. An outdoor pen and fence must be extended many feet below ground. It is said that Fennecs appear to disappear into the sand since they dig so fast.
Now that you know which fox will be living with you, here are some facts a video about Fox Village.
Fox Village in Japan
According to CBC Canada, this village is a sanctuary:
- Zao Fox Village is actually a sanctuary for foxes and other animals like rabbits, goats, and crows.
- There are six different types of foxes in the village of different sizes and colors.
- In springtime, after the babies are born, Zao Fox Village has a special event where you can hug a baby fox!
This is not a petting zoo! Anyone that has traveled to an animal sanctuary will tell you that these cute animals are to be observed. These are wild foxes, not domesticated foxes. The gift shop will sell you fox food so you can feed the cute foxes of course.
