Dog bowel movements seem to take more amount of time than they should. Dog owners all know that their pup always takes a few turns around the yard before they finally decide exactly where they want to defecate. A couple of sniffs here... A couple of spins there... And boom- your dog finally takes a poo. This husky attempts to poop and gives pet parents some insight into how their pooch may be making their decision.

In the humorous social media video, Jax the Husky heads out to the lawn to find a spot to poop. Once he locates a section of the lawn, Jax does a spin that he terms as "verification" that he needs to poop. Fair: you wouldn't want to get confused with needing to potty instead. The second circle is to "check for gremlins and men with beards and hats."
Once that is done, Jax takes one final turn around the circle, just to verify that he really does need to poop, and wallah, we finally have dog poop! What feels like it took a couple of days really only took about five minutes. But does it really need to be done every single time? I think we all know Jax's answer.
Common Causes of Constipation In Dogs?
As amusing as Jax's routine is, there are some real reasons why a dog may take a long time to evacuate their feces. A healthy dog will go every single day. However if your dog is not, there may be a few different reasons why, some of which may point to serious health problems that need addressing. Some of the reasons why a dog may have trouble pooping are:
- Blockage in their digestive tract
- Lack of exercise
- Enlarged prostate
- Not getting enough water
- ?Tumors in the rectum or anus
- Enlarged anal gland
Make sure your pup is getting plenty of water throughout the day. Always check their water bowl to ensure they have fresh, clean water, which will encourage your pup to drink more. You also need to make sure your dog has a balanced diet. If your dog has a hard time, they may need a change in their dog food. It is not uncommon for a dog's diet to harm their digestive tract. Some solutions for constipation are:
- Canned pumpkin
- ?Stool softener
- ?Laxatives
- ?Enemas
Always consult your vet before giving your dog any stool softeners or laxatives. As gross as it may be, when you take your dog out, always take a look at your pup's poop. There may be bits of chew toys in their fecal matter, indicating a blockage in their intestinal tract.
No matter what your pup's reason is for taking their sweet time pooping, I don't think any of us are going to get Jax the Husky's routine breakdown out of our heads any time soon.
