Whether you're looking for a hardcore expedition truck or an apocalyptic survival vehicle, there are, surprisingly, plenty of options for you to check out.
Based on some of the toughest and most rugged vehicles on the planet, these expedition vehicles are the ones that we would choose when the you-know-what hits the fan.
1. Rezvani Tank
While most survival and expedition vehicles are built onto full-size trucks, California-based Rezvani completely redesigned a Jeep Wrangler to create the Rezvani Tank.
Powered by a 500-horsepower, 6.4-liter V-8, the Tank starts at $178,000 and comes with features such as a luxurious, custom-made interior, power-operated rear suicide doors, digital head-up display and a thermal imaging/night vision system. Ballistic armor protection is optional.
2. Sportsmobile
On the complete opposite side of the spectrum of the coachbuilt Rezvani Tank, Sportsmobile upfits factory full-size vans from Mercedes-Benz, Ford, RAM, Chevrolet and Nissan.
Our favorite, though, is the 4x4 model based on the Ford Econoline van, which combines the ruggedness of an off-road vehicle with a luxurious interior fit for a motorhome.

3. EarthRoamer XV-HD
Ford lovers will definitely appreciate EarthRoamer and its mammoth XV-HD.
Based on the medium-duty Ford F-750 4x4, it has a luxurious King Ranch interior with a proven 6.7-liter Powerstroke diesel V-8 under the hood, and it also has Jeep-like off-road dimensions including a 46 degree approach angle and a 23 degree departure angle. To make sure this truck can roam anywhere, it can carry 115 gallons of fuel and 250 gallons of fresh water.
If this is what you're looking for, the EarthRoamer XV-HD is priced at $1.5 million.
4. GXV Safari Extreme
Global Expedition Vehicles is based out of the urban jungle that is the Springfield, Missouri area, but its trucks are designed to drive just about anywhere on Earth. GXV markets its vehicles as the un-RV designed to be driven anywhere rather than parked at an RV resort, and it only uses trucks equipped with locking differentials and four-wheel drive to back this up.
The Safari Extreme is our favorite of the GXV expedition vehicles and it can be offered on global beasts including the Mercedes U-500 Unimog and the International 7400 4x4.
5. EarthCruiser EXP
Just as its name suggests, Oregon-based EarthCruiser builds expedition vehicles to go anywhere.
The mammoth EXP model is based on a medium-duty Mitsubishi Fuso truck cab and chassis, and it is easy to drive since it has a retractable roof and the overall size of the truck still fits in a standard parking spot.
For true survivalists, the EarthCruiser EXP is diesel powered and has a built-in water purification system that can hold 80 gallons of water. It also has two built-in solar panels.
