New Electric SUVs Have Rugged, Retro Looks

Forget futuristic styling and sleek, aerodynamic lines. The latest electric SUVs look like they came straight out of the '70s! And that is certainly not a bad thing.

If you went back 30 years ago and had to guess what an SUV would look like in 2017, you'd probably envision something along the lines of the Tesla Model X, right?

Two upcoming electric SUVs prove that boxy, rugged, retro lines might have a place in the near future.

Green4U MTU-6

From the same minds that thought up the Panoz sports cars and Deltawing racecars comes the Green4U MTU-6. This six-door SUV was "designed primarily but not exclusively for fleet use" (such as taxi companies), and these should start hitting the road by next summer.

Many details (including full specs, pricing, and official release date) have not been released, but the company says that this boxy EV has a driving range of 230 miles on a single charge.

Of course, if this Humvee-like styling isn't quite your thing, Georgia-based Green4U will also be launching a more conventionally designed electric SUV called the Enova.

Fans of the first-gen Ford Bronco will certainly appreciate the Bollinger B-1, not only because of its design but also its power and off-road prowess.

This will definitely be one of the toughest electric SUVs with an output of 360-horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque, as well as the 15.5 inches of ground clearance and 6,000 pounds of towing capacity.

More importantly, the all-wheel-drive Bollinger B-1 will have a driving range of either 120 miles or 200 miles, depending on the model chosen. So far, New York-based Bollinger Motors has received a reported 10,000 hand raisers interested in the B-1 even though pricing has not been announced.
