Is this too far for Halloween decorations, or a great use of a car?
Controversy has stirred in Ocean City, New Jersey, where a Halloween decoration involving a bloody car has left some people with a wicked taste in their mouths.
So what do you think? If you saw this in your neighborhood, how would you react?
Would it be different if you had your kids with you?
I'm admittedly sort of a Halloween Scrooge, mainly because I don't see the appeal in being scared. That's a state of mind I'd rather avoid, thanks.
Do I think this is inappropriate? If I were still in college, out for a Halloween party at a frat house, I'd laugh at this and think it was pretty cool. Today, especially considering I could encounter this with my 4-year-old and 1-year-old while out trick or treating, I'd probably find it off-putting and rush past the house pulling my kids in a wagon behind me.
It's the sort of thing everyone has to decide themselves, and if you ask me, it's harmless until it harms someone. Even if that harm is really just to sensitive feelings, shouldn't we learn something from that, and try to get along?
There's an argument that it's "not hurting anybody," but there's also a counterargument that it's not doing much good, either.
We'll assume it's all in fun and move along. It's only a matter of time before Christmas, and we'll have more stories like this, I'm sure...
