While you can add another layer of clothing in this super-cold weather, your car isn't as easily protected. But there are some things you can do to help it (and you) survive until summer.
Is your car sluggish to start first thing in the morning cold? Could be a weak battery. Experts suggest replacing batteries every three years, but in extreme cold, a battery warmer might be necessary. But in an emergency situation, it's always good to have jumper cables on hand.
Speaking of warmers, an engine block heater can be indispensable in really cold climates. Not only will it keep your engine coolant from freezing, it will also help get the heater blowing faster. That will help defrost your windshield, warm your toes and improve the performance of your car's LCD screens that can get sluggish in cold temps.
Other tips: Cold can reduce the pressure in your tires. Check it more often in winter to ensure it meets your car's requirements. Consider switching to a lower-viscosity oil. Treat your car to a new set of windshield wipers, maybe even winter wipers.
