When a World War II Jeep went up for sale in original condition, one patriotic American took it upon himself to save it from the scrap heap.
Dan Williams is a Broken Arrow, Ok. resident who purchased the Jeep from an Army surplus sale in 2015. When he ran the serial numbers, he discovered it was built in Dallas, Texas on Veteran's Day in 1942.
This year, it celebrated its 75th birthday alongside other historic vehicles in the Tulsa Veteran's Day Parade.
During World War II, many automobile manufacturers pitched in to build Jeeps for the war effort, including Ford. Some Jeeps headed off to war, while others stayed stateside to support bases and manufacturing plants.
"[This Jeep] spent most of its working life here at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Tulsa," reported photojournalist Rick Wills.
Plant workers modified the body to suit their needs, but the engine, drivetrain, and other parts are 1942 originals. Dan Williams plans to enjoy this piece of American history for decades to come.
