Volkswagen is extending an olive branch to all German diesel vehicle owners in cities banning diesel.
In response to a German court awarding the right for city governments to ban diesel vehicles, Volkswagen extended a buyback offer to owners of new Volkswagen diesel vehicles purchased as of April 1 through the end of 2018.
This offer falls under the condition owners live in cities that implement the diesel ban up to three years from the date of purchase.
"With the Germany Guarantee and the diesel environmental incentive, we are offering our customers security when they choose a diesel and are on their side as a strong partner," said Thomas Zahn, head of sales at marketing at Volkswagen.
Diesel sales have plummeted this year, with a 19-percent fall in Germany in Feb. 2017 with similar performance throughout the continent. According to Volkswagen, 120,000 older diesel models have been removed from circulation due to its trade-in program. No word if Volkswagen plans to extend the program to other countries.
