The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is now enlisting the help of ghost-like cruisers vehicles to nab drunk drivers.
Named the "ghost patrol car," the all-black cruisers feature a glow in the dark chassis and darkened "State Trooper" logos throughout, with the same markings as standard police vehicles albeit with a lower profile. Little specifications or mod information is available, other than it features a V8 engine and all-wheel drive.
The district will assign one ghost car to eight troops, which are assigned to a region or county.
One trooper, J.A. Thomas, was the first to receive a ghost car, from the NCSHP due to his distinction as the state's leading DWI investigations and arresting officer of the past four years.
"I love it. It's a nice ride," said Thomas, shortly after a small ceremony awarding the keys to the vehicle. "Just knowing, like, this car is a reward, and if I save one life, it's a greater reward in the community."
