Detroit Auto Show Moving to the Summer from 2020 Onward

Big changes are afoot for one of Detroit's premier events: the North American Auto Show.

Starting in 2020, the North American Auto Show in Detroit will be moving to the summer.

One major benefit is the introduction of live outdoor music, a street festival, driving demonstrations, and outdoor exhibits, with plans to be scattered throughout its host location, Cobo Hall, as well as downtown Detroit and Belle Isle.

According to NAIAS' most recent press release, the move will present "a canvas of unlimited brand activation and engagement opportunities — a canvas only limited by exhibitor creativity and imagination."

The decision was made by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association which currently comprises of more than 250 parties that help in the planning of each event. It also took into account auto launch schedules, with feedback from several automakers that June 2020 work well with their plans.

Moving to the outdoors also offers more immersive branding experiences such as self-driving car demonstrations.

The last indoor show will take place Jan. 19-27, 2019.
