San Antonio has everything you need — theme parks, history, art, and food. And you don't even have to look that far! After all, this Hill Country jewel is one of America's fastest-growing cities. Austin and Houston get all the love but don't overlook San Antonio.
But if you only have a limited amount of time, creating your itinerary can be a chore. So, if you're trying to get the best bang for your buck in a downtown San Antonio day trip, consider us your tour guide.
For this article, we're keeping our plan for the downtown area. But if the roller coasters of Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Fredericksburg wineries, or the Natural Bridge Caverns are more your speed than sightseeing, have at it!
Start With The San Antonio River Walk

The River Walk isn't just one of San Antonio's most famous attractions. It's also a majestic place to start your adventure. You can grab a delicious breakfast at Market Square, watch live music, explore the many shops, and go on a boat tour down the San Antonio River in just a couple of hours! Check out nearby locales like the Pearl Brewery and the Doseum.
The River Walk also conveniently connects major attractions like Brackenridge Park, Witte Museum, and the San Antonio Museum of Art. Brackenridge features the Japanese Tea Garden, San Antonio Zoo, and San Antonio Botanical Garden for nature lovers. You can even choose to stay at one of the many hotels along the river if you genuinely want to enjoy the area.

One can not simply go to San Antonio and not see the Alamo. There's a reason everyone remembers the site of the Texans' famous last stand against the Mexican Army; it's a memorable tourist attraction! You'll not only learn about American history (and, of course, about the famous Battle of the Alamo), but you'll gain a real sense of pride in the brave people who fought at this historic landmark.
You can also see an artifact that once belonged to Davy Crockett! And the best part is that it's all free. However, you can pay for a guide if you want an even more in-depth look at this iconic historic site.
Reach New Heights in the Tower of the Americas

Just south of the Alamo, the Tower of the Americas provides a more 21st-century look at San Antonio and its surroundings. In this iconic building, 750 feet in the air, you'll revel in some truly spectacular views of the city.
You can also learn more about San Antonio's history or attend a 4D show that the kids will love. And if you're hungry, then check out the revolving restaurant, which will surely leave your head (but not your stomach) spinning.
Do Mess With Texas (...Food)

If a revolving lunch isn't your speed, consider visiting one of the many delectable restaurants around the Alamo main plaza and historic market square, including the Range (which has excellent steaks and seafood) and Dough Pizzeria (which has amazing pizzas and pasta). And the farmer's market has plenty to offer.
Oh, and by the way, if you're looking for lunch food at midnight, you can do that here! Just hit up one of the many 24-hour Jim's Restaurants around San Antonio.
Take On a New Mission

The Alamo isn't the only incredible mission in San Antonio! Mission San Juan, Mission San Jose, Mission Espada, and Mission Concepcion are closest to the city center if you want to round out your weekend there. They're all located at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
However, each mission offers something uniquely entertaining or wondrous — and they're all close to one another. So, suppose you're a fan of cool architecture or the history of Spaniards in Texas. In that case, you have to visit these charming sites!
Spend the Night on a Ghost Tour

There are lots of options for nightlife in San Antonio. You will truly never be bored! For a more traditional night out, you can hit up Howl at the Moon (one of the best nightlife locations in the city) and then stumble into the Thirsty Horse for some real country fun.
But for a more alternative experience, consider making a deal with the devil and signing up for a guided tour of haunted bars. Whether you party with cowgirls or cow ghosts, you'll have a perfect cap for your weekend.
