New Bill in Maine Could Make it Much Easier for Seniors to Hunt Deer

Legislators in Maine are looking at a bill that would allow residents 70 years and older to hunt antlerless deer.

There is good news for seniors in Maine as lawmakers seriously consider a bill that would provide them a gratis antlerless deer tag permit during the fall hunting season. Those who qualify would still need to be valid holders of a current state hunting license.

Bill champion, Rep. Russel Black, sees this proposed bill as a way of "honoring our longtime hunters."

The bill was first brought forth 7 February and will shortly be considered by the Maine state Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Antlerless deer tag permits have long be used as a population control method to avoid deer overpopulation and to maintain healthy and manageable numbers.
