Ram partnered with Mopar to show off the endless capabilities of the new 1500.
Featuring over 200 added Mopar parts and accessories, attendees at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show were able to see a totally decked-out Ram 1500 in the flesh.
Auto Shows are prime time to introduce new concepts, models and features. And this year, Ram took full advantage of that opportunity.
The point of this "debut," if you will, of the Mopar-infused 1500 is to show potential customers the possibilities when it comes to customization.
And in this case, the possibilities for off-road enthusiasts.
So, what exactly is included?
To start off with, the customized model is based on the 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport 4x4 in Flame Red. So already, it features a chrome grille, front and rear bumpers and door handles, fog lamps and 18-inch wheels.
Added to it was a 2-inch lift kit that provides more road clearance and room for the massive 35-inch tires. Black off-road wheel flares and off-road cast-aluminum running boards are also integrated.
As we mentioned before, you can expect to see an array of new features at auto shows, and one was included in this off-road beast.
Not yet on the market—but "available in the near future"—is the Ram Rack. We first got wind of this up-and-coming add-on at the 2016 SEMA show when it was showcased as a prototype.
Dubbed as a "lifestyle" Ram Rack, it mounts to the available utility rails and provides additional storing and securing capability in the bed.
Under-the-hood mechanics don't change from the original Big Horn Sport—the 5.7L HEMI V8 remains intact. Paired with it, however, is Mopar's new "Ram Airflow," which delivers a consistent stream of fresh air to the powertrain, optimizing its efficiency and its ability to output 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
The RAM Airflow system integrates with another Mopar component: a performance cat-back stainless steel exhaust that renders a deep exhaust note.
This new system will be made available later this year, and it will be compatible with all hood applications of the 2019 model.
Although the exterior is really where Mopar shines, the interior of this 2019 Ram 1500 also receives a few upgrades. Rebel Red accents accentuate the seat stitching, door trim, center console and Ram logo on the front seats.
New Mopar all-weather floor mats are designed with deeper channels and higher sidewalls for better water and debris containment.
Mopar is the official parts and accessories sector of FCA. According to a spokesman, "The fit, finish and function of all Mopar parts and accessories were developed in close concert with Ram Truck engineers and designers to harmonize with the all-new Ram."
If this joining of forces tells us anything, it's that Mopar and Ram are unstoppable when it comes to customization options in the truck segment—and beyond.
