Doggie itching like crazy? Here are six natural home allergy remedies for dogs.
Nothing breaks my heart more than having to put a cone on a pup due to their scratching. I understand that dogs can get allergy symptoms too and feel dreadful throughout the day. Sneezing and itchy skin is no fun at all! Dog allergies can occur seasonally, just like our allergies. If your fur baby is suffering from seasonal allergies, it's time to offer them a natural home allergy remedy for dogs.
You can buy your dog allergy medications, or you can test out natural remedies at home. Choosing between natural remedies and medications should be up to you and your pooch's vet. If your dog has experienced harmful side effects from medications in the past, a natural antihistamine remedy may be best for your pet.
Common Allergens for Dogs
Environmental allergies can cause your doggie to start scratching their irritated skin like no tomorrow. According to the AKC, some of the more frequent causes of dog skin allergies are:

1. Oatmeal Bath
I've noticed that when a dog gets allergies, the biggest giveaway is skin irritation. Pet owners, if you notice that you have an itchy dog, be sure to give your pup an oatmeal bath. Many people with eczema and sensitive skin even find oatmeal baths to have anti-inflammatory properties. The added aloe and shea butter also help soothe and moisturize.
2. Aloe Vera
Spray this formula all over your itchy dog's skin once a day, or spray hot spots up to four times a day. The chamomile and other antioxidants will help soothe your pup's inflamed skin, and it won't interfere with any topical treatments you use for flea and tick prevention and can easily be applied at home.
3. Coconut Oil
I've personally had even used coconut oil for my dry skin issues. Coconut oil works miracles. I have to say, I like it as a coating rather than a single treatment. For example, I'll use coconut oil to seal in lotion on cold winter days. If your dog seems to have severely affected areas, I would coat your dog's skin with a spray formula, then add coconut oil. It's about as natural of a home dog allergy remedy as you can get.
4. Epsom Salt

Epsom salt baths are soothing for everyone. Dilute anywhere from 1/2 cup to about 1 cup Epsom salt to soothe your dog's itchy skin. Bonus: you probably already have some at home.
5. Fish Oil + Probiotics
Adding omega-3 fatty acids to your dog's diet may benefit their immune system and also help with allergic reactions. Many pet owners give their pets Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Supplements or choose an oil with omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar
You might already have this in your kitchen. If so, grab an empty spray bottle and dilute 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar in warm water. Spray problem spots up to three times a day. The antifungal properties will help defuse any irritants and help stop the itch. This natural allergy remedy for dogs is a favorite!
If itchiness still occurs, be sure to check with your dog's vet. It doesn't hurt to check if a specific kibble is giving your pet allergies.
You also want to be wary if your dog needs medication or allergy shots. Many dogs are prescribed Apoquel by their veterinarians, which is basically Benadryl for dogs.
