Audi has issued a recall for 1.27 million vehicles worldwide due to an electrical fault with its auxiliary heater plug connectors.
Specifically, electrical fires can be caused by excess compression of its fuel lines, which could result in a fuel leak.
At best, it could lead to a burning smell. According to Audi, the cars remain safe to drive, but it is highly recommended pulling over in the event a burning odor is detected.
Affected models affected include Q4, A5, A5 Cabriolet, and Q5 models built between Apr. 2011 and May 2015. Of them, the majority of affected cars are in Europe (approximately 875K vehicles), followed by North America (250K) and Asia (47K). All numbers are approximate figures.
To date, no fires or injuries have been reported.
Owners will start to be notified of the recall on Feb 5, 2018. For more information on the recall, contact Audi's customer service line at 888.237.2834. Alternately, Audi owners can visit the NHTSA website and input their VIN number for more details.
