A new study by Autolist.com has shed light on consumer attitudes on the EPA's latest proposal to cut fuel economy standards.
The study that's stirring the auto industry pot comes from Autolist.com, and helps show what folks are thinking about fuel economy standards, and the proposed changes that could affect them.
Polling 1,232 current car shoppers, 41 percent of respondents expressed opposition to the plan, with 30 percent undecided.
Roughly 50 percent also agreed California should be allowed to set its own fuel emissions standards. With the Trump plan seeking to revoke these privileges, a lengthy series of court battles is anticipated with a ruling due by the end of the year.

In terms of geographical distribution, no bias was detected based on states, with many red state respondents voting the same as California.
According to the Trump Administration's proposal, federal fuel economy standards would freeze mile-per-gallon standards after 2020, instead of steadily rising through 2025 under the Obama rules. That could require automakers to average 50 miles per gallon across entire new car and light truck fleets.
