The Western Carolina University Bass Fishing Club usually spends its time on the water on the hunt for the next big lunker.
This week, however, the club, based in Cullowhee, North Carolina, has been on the water, helping Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas. After hearing the call for anyone with a boat to help in the hurricane area, the club immediately went into action.
Members of the bass fishing club set out on the 15-hour drive Wednesday. Besides hauling their boats to Houston, club members brought a load of supplies, such as first aid kits, life vests, water, etc.
The WCU Bass Fishing Club is providing updates on its efforts on the club Facebook page. The club reports that in five hours on day one, they helped evacuate 30-40 people from their homes. They also assisted with two medical calls.
"This is more devastating than any news network could ever portray," the club posted on Facebook.
To help defray costs, the WCU bass fishing club set up a GoFundMe page. All money raised beyond that needed to cover the club's expenses will be donated to a relief agency to aid the area.
