Most Common Bird Species of South Carolina

As of late 2017, there are 424 bird species included in the official list of birds of South Carolina. Audubon's bird conservation efforts in the state target on several priority bird species with the primary challenges at hand being habitat loss and climate change.

Thanks to the following lists compiled by What Birds Are in My Backyard, we explore the most common birds in South Carolina but also the birds 'most common' in the winter and summer seasons. Many of the priority birds are on the list below!

The most common backyard birds in summer

Between winters and summers in South Carolina, you'll find that Carolina Chickadees, Yellow-rumped Warblers, White-throated Sparrows, Ruby-crowned Kinglets are more common in winter. Outside of those cases, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between bird populations given the season!
