This Bison was Not Letting this Coyote Steal Her Calf

There's nothing like a mother's love and this Bison mother is no exception.

To the victor go the spoils, and this mother Bison holds the victory.

A Yellowstone National Park Ranger, Joy Guffy, took some incredible photos of a recent Bison giving birth in the Yellowstone National Park. What's so incredible of these photos is a coyote had been sitting around, awaiting the birth in hope of acquiring a meal or two.

The only problem, at least for the coyote, was this mom was NOT having it.

According to Yellowstone's Facebook Page, Ranger Guffy commented:

"A coyote has been staying around Madison waiting for the birth of bison calves. Last week, immediately after giving birth, a cow bison had to defend her newborn calf from a very determined coyote. The cow was worn out from giving birth and the calf was unable to stand yet. The coyote was ultimately unsuccessful, but all three appeared to be exhausted from the interaction."

Despite the coyote's multiple efforts, it still came up empty handed. The war continued to the point of exhaustion, leaving the mother Bison and newborn calf the victors.

The Yellowstone National Park, as mentioned on their Facebook, is not a zoo or park. With that, what happens in nature stays in nature, and that sometimes can end in graphic sights. Luckily for onlookers and nature lovers, the Bison ensures a happy ending to this story.
