"Nobody can believe it, because who can say they have a squirrel that guards their house?"
Most people get a dog when looking for an animal to help protect their home. But Adam Pearl of Meridian, Idaho doesn't need one.
That's because he has an attack squirrel named Joey. And Joey chased off a burglar last week, one that had been looking to get into his owner's gun safe! The whole crazy story began when Pearl entered his home on Tuesday and immediately realized something was amiss.
It was after Pearl began noticing normally closed doors left open that he began to suspect there had been an intruder. That's when he noticed scratches around the lock on his gun safe. Clearly, someone had tried to break into it.
Thankfully, the thief had not managed to breach the safe. But the investigating police, who were introduced to Joey during the investigation, probably had no idea why the thief had abandoned the effort.
That is, until a little later after Meridian Police Officer Ashley Turner had recovered some things stolen from Pearl. It was during her questioning of the suspect who had them that the pet squirrel's heroics came to light.
"She said while she was questioning the individual he had scratches on his hands so she asked him 'Did you get that from the squirrel?' and he says 'Yeah, damn thing kept attacking me and wouldn't stop until I left,'" Pearl told KIVTI-TV News .
And of course, his heroics couldn't go unrewarded. Joey was treated to some candy whoppers for his efforts.
I tell you, just when I think I've heard it all. Who would have thought a squirrel would be that loyal to its home and owners? Well done Joey, well done indeed!
